The Story
Daily Business
My daily business as Application Engineer began with the look into the monitoring system which was realized with an Nagios adaption which was further expanded with an Prometheus & Grafana implementation – which were also designed, implemented and operated from my team.
The projects
Usually after the operation tasks to keep the portfolio of over one hundred Enterprise applications up and running, there were a tight schedule of project appointments and coordination’s ahead. Most cases started with the design of the underlying IT-Infrastructure, which I was pretty well aware, thanks to my previous role in this department. It further continued with the creation of the Project and Time plan. All those tasks in constant communication with the software vendor – Sometimes internal developed applications, but mostly from external partners like Atlassian, BMC, FIS, Microsoft, SAP, Simcorp, Software AG, etc…
All the agreed plans were now to be realized. So the design went into the implementation in my responsibility. Beginning from real software installations, configurations and bug fixing to project reporting and accounting, the complete end-to-end responsibility to provide a working solution were assigned to me.
At the very end of every implementation project was the transition into the daily operation planned and to be done. Mostly depending on the documented work in the ambitious project before.
Level up!
After several such iterations I saw several Application landscapes slowly fading out. of their lifecycle which I implemented years ago. It was time to realize, I have now seen the full „circle of life“. So I started to hand over all my Application „babies“ which I brought into production and became a senior in my team. Mostly jumping into escalating projects as Consultant or more precisely as Fire brigade.
